A payment by a debtor made 90 days prior to the bankruptcy filing that favors one creditor over others.  If the payment is to an insider, the preference period is one year prior to filing the bankruptcy.  Preference payments can usually be recovered from the payee (not the debtor) by the trustee and returned to the debtor's estate.
