Non-dischargeable Debt
A debt that cannot be wiped out in bankruptcy, such as past-due alimony or child support, certain taxes, debts for most government funded or guaranteed educational loans or benefit overpayments, debts arising from death or personal injury caused by driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, and restitution or fine included in a sentence on the debtor's conviction of a crime. Additionally, a creditor may ask the bankruptcy court to determine that its debt was incurred through the dishonest or fraudulent conduct of the debtor. Such an allegation, known as an Objection to Dischargeability, is difficult to prove and rarely made.
